Mr. Warkentien
I am thrilled to be a part of the Hancock staff. I have taught all ages of students in both private and public settings. (pre-school through senior citizens) I earned my Master of Arts in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University, and started in SDUSD at Horton Elementary in 1999. I have presented at Physical Education professional development workshops and served as a FitnessGram trainer. Additionally, I have completed SPARK and First Tee training and served on committees discussing content standards and desired outcomes. My wife teaches dance at SCPA and is a fabulous choreographer and mom. Our son aspires to be a professional ballet dancer and currently dances with Atlanta Ballet 2. Among other things, our daughter wants to star on Broadway, win a Tony and become a published author. Afterwards, she plans to teach voice or acting at a high school. Prior to teaching in SDUSD, I enjoyed working as a performing artist. My career began dancing in a trio with Gene Kelly on The Mike Douglas Show at the age of 10. Additional TV credits include singing and dancing with Carol Burnett on the Tim Conway Special, an ABC Afterschool Special, Diagnosis Murder, and the 1984 Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Films include Disney's Pocahontas, Chances Are, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, I'll Do Anything and the American Clock. Theater credits include The Wizard of Oz at Radio City Music Hall, Sugar Babies in Atlantic City and A Midsummer's Night Dream at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. As a soloist, I have performed Morton Gould's Tap Dance Concerto with the Pacific and San Diego symphony orchestras to name a few.
I have been fortunate to work with legendary and inspirational performers and train with some of the very best teachers in the industry. I try to incorporate these life experiences into my classroom.
