Welcome to Hancock!
Dear Hancock Elementary Families,
My name is Irene Hightower and it is my sincere pleasure and honor to be coming to a wonderful school that is known for its dedication to academic excellence. As your newly appointed principal, I look forward to working collaboratively with you to provide the best educational experiences for all of our students.
I am a proud product of SDUSD. I graduated from Patrick Henry High School and continued my education at San Diego State University where I earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree. Once I realized my commitment to becoming a school administrator I earned an Administrative Credential through Chapman University.
I began in the district as a Teacher's Aide and Noon Duty while attending San Diego State University. Once credentialed I held positions as a teacher at Field and Nye Elementary Schools for 12 years. I decided to continue my professional growth and accepted a position as a central office Resource Teacher with the Program Monitoring Department for four years. Then I was assigned to Vice Principal positions at Doyle and Rosa Parks Elementary Schools. In 2014, I was appointed principal of Cabrillo Elementary where approximately 60% of the student population are from military families living in Lincoln housing at Liberty Station in Point Loma. I am a firm believer in the importance of building strong relationships with staff, students, and parents. This is the only way that we can truly collaborate with one another to do what is best for our students. I am dedicated to spending a majority of my time visiting classrooms and getting to know the students while supporting their learning. The times I spend with the students are both meaningful and rewarding.
Sincerely,
Irene Hightower
Principal
