Meet Our 5th Grade Teachers

Mr. Nunez
My name is Paul Nunez. I teach 4/5 combination class. I really enjoy working with the two grade levels. I am starting my second year at Hancock Elementary and I am having a wonderful time. The students, parents, and Hancock staff are a special community that shines academically.
Although I am starting my second year at Hancock Elementary, I have dedicated 29 years of service to San Diego Unified School District. My journey began at Brooklyn Elementary as a 4th Grade teacher. During the journey, I have been a middle school teacher, resource teacher, middle school vice principal, and a high school vice principal. It has been a wonderful journey.
I attended California State University – Fullerton to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. I continued my education at San Diego State University and received my Master’s in Education and teaching credential. In my spare time, I enjoy reading. At this point I have been reading historical books. Movies! I really enjoy a fine movie. Well, I also like bad movies. Music is an important part of life. My music taste skims classical music, blues, pop, heavy metal, and punk rock. And of course, I am a big sports fan.
Thank you for your support! Together we will plant the seed of knowledge and cultivate its fruit.

Mr. Oeffling
I grew up in Illinois, in a pretty small town northwest of Chicago. That is where most of my family still lives. I went to college at Michigan State University and majored in Spanish. I moved out to San Diego in 2001, got my teaching credentials, and have been teaching for sixteen years. I have taught third, fourth, and fifth grades. I earned my Master's degree in teaching science through Miami University and San Diego Zoo Global in December of 2015. Teaching science is definitely one of my favorite subjects to teach!

Ms. Chapman
Hello Hancock Families, I am excited to be working with your child this year.
A little bit about me. I was born in New York, raised in California, but consider San Diego my home. I began my teaching journey immediately after graduating from University City High School becoming a Teaching Assistant for San Diego Unified. I was destined to be a teacher; I come from a long line of educators dating back to the 1800's.
I graduated from SDSU with my Teaching Credential with a Specialization in Linguistics. When I am not teaching, I can be found volunteering with various theatre groups, usually behind the scenes while my daughter is performing onstage. I enjoy traveling, shopping, and spending time with my family including my husband, 4 cats, and 2 dogs.
