School Resumes TUESDAY January 3rd

Winter Break continues through Monday Jan 2nd. We will see everyone back on Tuesday, January 3rd.

COVID-19 Self-Testing Before Returning to School

The California Department of Public Health now recommends self testing for COVID-19 the day before coming back to school and two or three days after returning. We encourage students and staff to test on Monday, Jan. 2 and again on either Wednesday, Jan 4 or Thursday, Jan 5.

Testing before returning to school is recommended but not required. Additional test kits for students and staff are available at the Ed Center COVID-19 testing facility. If you test positive for COVID-19, please do not attend school and report your illness here.

Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of any cold-like virus, until those symptoms start to improve and there is no fever for 24 hours (without use of fever-reducing medication). Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of our students and staff.

Coffee With the Principal Jan 6th

Join Mrs. Hightower and the admin team here at Hancock for the January 6th “Coffee with the Principal” at 8:00am. This is an informal opportunity to hear what is going on in coming weeks at Hancock and ask questions. The meeting is held in the Eagle’s Nest (Room 702) and light refreshments are provided.

Young Engineers Begins New Session

Young Engineers offers an after-school program at Hancock on Fridays. The next session begins Fri Jan 20th. If you are interested in signing up your student or would like more information, see the attached flyer or visit the program website.

Students Can Make up Absences at Core Academy

Saturday, Jan 21st will be the next Core Academy session at Hancock. Core Academy is an additional instructional day (4 hours on a Saturday) offering academic support and allows students to make up one full day of absence. Students must sign up ahead of time to attend. Please complete this Google Form to register your student. Sign Up for 1/21 Core Academy Here

Students Absent With COVID-like Symptoms

Please keep your child home when they’re sick. There are a number of illnesses occurring at the same time currently (COVID, Flu and RSV). If your student has any COVID-like, Flu or RSV symptoms (see list), please keep them home until the symptoms have improved and a negative COVID-19 test result has been achieved.  If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please complete the Reporting Tool: https://sforce.co/3HOD3ZL If you have any questions about when and what is required for your student to return to school, please contact our health office at 619-605-3200, Option 3.

Need to Report an Absence?

If your child will be absent please be sure to report your absence to the office, not just your teacher.  You may report the absence using this google form OR you may call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message any day/time.  Please be specific in your reason.

Hancock staff truly cares about your students and we work hard to communicate with families about any absences. We completely understand that students get sick or have occasional days they need to be out. It is chronic absenteeism (missing 10% of school days or more) that we aim to prevent. Please let us know ways Hancock can help support challenges your family may be having that keep students out of school. Our attendance team is willing and able to discuss with families who have concerns about letters they are receiving regarding Chronic Absenteeism.  Please contact our School Counselor Mrs. MacMaster ([email protected])  or our Attendance Clerk Mrs. Wong ([email protected])  to set up an appointment.   If you are interested in learning about the importance of attendance, please watch this video (Attendance Works), which features parents talking to other parents about reducing absenteeism. Filmed in schools across the country, the video offers tips for parents and schools to improve student attendance. #SchoolEveryDay
