No School May 26 - May 29 - Memorial Weekend

All schools in SDUSD will be closed Friday May 26 and Monday May 29. Enjoy the extra long weekend with your family. 

State Testing is Wrapping Up This Week

5th Grade classes will continue with one final week of State Testing. In addition, students who missed days during their classroom testing will be pulled to complete any missing portions. 

Military Appreciation Night at San Diego Wave FC (Fri 5/26)

The San Diego Wave is hosting Military Appreciation Night at Snapdragon Stadium on Friday May 26th at 7:00pm. Free tickets will be available for Hancock families if you RSVP to us by Monday May 22.  Please visit this link and fill out your request for tickets. They will be available at Hancock on Thursday 5/25 during office hours.

Hancock End of Year Carnival June 2nd!

We’re celebrating the end of another successful year at Hancock Elementary School. All Hancock students will be attending our end of year carnival on Friday, June 2nd. FLIER  Parents are welcome to attend during their student’s time at the carnival. Due to time and space limitations, parents will not be allowed into classrooms before or after carnival times and siblings will NOT be allowed to attend at all.

10:00am-10:50am -1st Grade

11:00am-11:50am - 3rd Grade/Peji

12:00pm-12:50pm - Kindergarten

We are also looking for volunteers to help during the day! Volunteers must be cleared through the office to sign up for a spot. If you would like to help out, sign up HERE.  Each slot is about 2 hours. Special Event by Special Needs Resource Foundation

On Saturday, June 10, 2023, the Special Needs Resource Foundation of San Diego will be hosting ReadAble, a kickoff for summer reading event. Three authors will read their books (2 mid-grades and a picture book) and there will be related crafts and snacks. Every child will leave with a free book!  It is a free event at the downtown library with free parking. Free College Savings Workshop May 31st

Did you know that the state of California has a career/college savings program for all CA public students who qualified for Free/Reduced Lunch during the 2021 - 2022 school year?  No enrollment was required, so if your student qualifies, they may have future funds available.  On May 31st, San Diego Unified’s Counseling and Guidance Department is hosting a webinar to share the information!  See this flier for more information.

Hancock is Hiring Hourly Staff for 2023-2024 SY

Hancock is looking for hourly staff to assist with supervising students at lunch and recess. The shift is typically 11:00-1:00 on an “as needed” basis. Occasionally, before and after school parking lot supervision is included. If you are interested, contact Dawn Van Boxtel in the front office to learn how to apply. 

Are You Returning to Hancock Next Year?

It is time for us to begin preparing for next school year. In order to assist our staff with this process, please take a moment to complete this quick survey to let us know what your family’s plans are.  You will answer the survey for your oldest student at Hancock currently in grades UTK-4. NEW Incoming Kindergarteners for the 2023-2024 School Year

If you have a Kinder student to register at Hancock for next school year, your first step is to visit the NSEO website HERE and click the link for “New Student Online Enrollment 2023-2024”.  All new student registration must begin with this online application. Once this online process is complete, please visit the main office to pick up the full registration packet. All new students will need to provide an original birth certificate, proof of residency, and up-to-date immunizations. Students who are returning after UTK in the 22/23 school year at any SDUSD school site do not need to do anything. Student Absences Due to Illness

Please keep your child home when they’re sick.  They must be at least 24-hours fever and vomit/diarrhea free (unmedicated) before returning to school. 

If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please complete the Self Reporting Tool and notify the school’s health office. If you have any questions about when and what is required for your student to return to school, please contact the office at 619-605-3200.

Reporting Absences

If your child will be absent please be sure to report the absence to the office, not just your teacher.  You may report the absence using this google form OR you may call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message any day/time.  Please be specific in your reason. 


End of Year Activities

As we get into the final month of school, the Hancock calendar gets very busy with field trips, assemblies, and special events during the school day. Good attendance ensures your student doesn’t miss out on any of the end of year fun. Be sure to check the school website, Facebook page and messages from your teachers about important dates.
