Hancock Happenings

Week 9 - Oct 25 - 29

Monster Dash

The Monster Dash is this Friday, October 29th! Make sure your student comes to school Friday in athletic shoes so they can walk/jog/run and wear comfortable clothing!  A costume may not be appropriate depending on what it is and please no costume masks. We also want to thank all of our awesome Hancock families for putting in the effort to raise money!! We are only $5,000 dollars away from our $30,000 goal! Wow! All money goes right back to our school and our students! We have already put it to good use by starting gardening with farmer Kristina and art classes with our amazing art teacher Mrs. Rodenbaugh next week!  We have one more week to hit our goal! The deadline is November 4th for donations! Thank you for all your love and support! We appreciate you so much! SOAR Eagles SOAR!

Core Academy Beginning Saturday Oct 30

Hancock is happy to announce that we will begin offering “Core Academy” this month. Core Academy provides students with an opportunity to receive additional instruction in various core subject areas to help them reach their academic goals. In addition, students can earn attendance credit for one day of absence. The instruction during these 4 hour Saturday sessions is led by Hancock teachers.  The first session will be Saturday, October 30 from 8:00a to 12:00p. At this time, we will be offering this to students in grades 2-5 only. Spaces are limited. Additional sessions will be offered each month. To sign up, please use our Google Form.  The deadline for signing up is noon on Wednesday Oct 27th. Note that students will be provided a free breakfast snack during the session. Parents must pick students up promptly at noon.

New After School Program This Week

Young Engineers will be offering an after school program at Hancock starting on Friday 10/29. Young Engineers enrichment programs provide an engaging, hands-on learning experience.  Each lesson inspires students to create, build and learn through a fun and entertaining LEGO® Challenge experience. This session’s theme is Amusement Parks. For more information, session dates and how to register, visit greatersandiego.e2youngengineers.com  or register online here.

Illness Absences During the COVID Pandemic

Students who are sent home or asked to stay home with any symptoms that could be COVID related are only able to return to school if a negative PCR COVID-19 test result is provided to our health office, or if the student quarantines for 10 days. Students can utilize free PCR testing at drive-up centers at the District’s comprehensive high schools .To schedule an appointment at one of these high school locations, visit the district’s SDUSD COVID Status Webpage. Click on the COVID-19 Testing link and look for Symptomatic Testing.

After an illness related absence, the guidelines for your student to return are as follows:

  • Improvement in symptoms
  • 24 hours fever free without the help of fever reducing medication
  • Negative PCR test (please note: rapid/antigen tests are not accepted) - please present the result to our health office (bvaldez@sandi.net) before sending your student back to school. Students must get a green “cleared” pass from the front office before they can return to class.

Need to Report an Absence?

If your child will be absent from school, please be sure to report your absence to the office, not just your teacher.  You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message.  Please be specific in your reason.
