Holiday Weekend

As a reminder there will be no school on Monday, February 21st in observance of Presidents Day.  School will resume on Tuesday, February 22nd.

PrimeTime Afterschool Program Information for 2022-2023

  • 2022-23 PrimeTime Online Application will be available beginning Monday, March 7, 2022, at 6:00 a.m.
  • A Parent Information session for Hancock’s program is scheduled for Friday 2/25 at 5:00 pm and will be held via Zoom. Click this link for login. Password is Hancock22!

Hancock School Budget for 2022-2023

Each year our school site has to make decisions about the next year’s school budget.  If you would like to view the screencastify video about next year’s budget please click on this link:  Budget 22-23.mp4  Once you have viewed the video you may provide input as a parent or community member here:  Hancock Budget Input for 2022-23  Budget input will be available until Sunday, February 20th at 5PM.  Input suggestions will be shared with the School Site Council who will make the final decision on Tuesday, February 22nd.

California School Parent Survey - Your Input is Needed

The CalSCHLS system is a tool for our district and school to collect quality local data which can be used to improve student academic performance and social-emotional, behavioral, and physical health of all youth. Your participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information you provide will help guide efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, and improve student achievement.  The survey window is open until March 25, 2022.  Please follow this link to take the survey: https://wested.ugam-apps.com/wed/ts/Ncya.  Your data is anonymous and questions apply to Hancock only. If you have more than one child at this school, you will only need to complete one survey for this school. Please fill out just one survey about the school using your oldest child as a reference.

Core Academy Saturday Feb. 26

Does your student have absences to make up? Could he/she use some extra academic support?  Core Academy not only provides students with an opportunity to receive additional instruction in various core subject areas, but it also gives students the ability to make up one full day of absence and up to 4 tardies!. The instruction during these Saturday sessions is led by Hancock teachers.  The next session will be Saturday, February 26 from 8:00a to 12:00p. We will be offering this to students in grades 2-5 only. Spaces are limited. Additional sessions will be offered each month. Note that students will be provided a free breakfast snack during the session. Parents must pick students up promptly at noon.

Summer School Enrollment Deadline 2/28

This summer, Hancock will not be a host site for the district’s Level Up Summer Program. These are the schools in our area that will have sessions: Kumeyaay ES, Vista Grande ES, Tierrasanta ES, Farb MS and Canyon Hills HS. The session runs a full 5 weeks, 4 hours/day.  Program dates are June 21 – July 22 for elementary and middle school. High school runs one week longer ending July 29. Kindergarten Enrollment for 2022-2023

If you have a student to enroll for Kindergarten next school year, mark your calendar for “Early Enrollment” during the week of May 16-20. Parents will be able to pick up and/or return packets during that week to get early enrollment started. If you miss this window, general enrollment will begin in the weeks prior to school starting in August. Note, this is only for Kindergarten.  The district is revamping the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.  More information on TK will be forthcoming. 

Students Returning After Illness

If your student was absent due to illness and is required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test before returning to school, please upload your test result here: Upload Test Results Here  A photo or screenshot of the result works best.

Weekly COVID Testing at Hancock

Please know you may add your child to our weekly Tuesday asymptomatic testing on campus if you have not already done so. You have a few options to sign them up:

Option 1 - If you have already created a Parent Portal account, you can do the required opt-in and consent process in the Parent Portal. Here are those instructions.

Option 2 - Complete forms in person at the Hancock Office

Option 3 - Download these 2 forms and return to school with your child.  Opt-In Form    Consent Form

Note that once you complete this registration, it may take a week or two for your student to be moved onto our testing rosters.

Questions About Staying Home and When to Return after Illness?

  • If your child has symptoms or is complaining of not feeling well please keep them at home and follow this: e-Decision Tree, updated 2/8/2022
  • If your child has come into contact with a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 please also use the e-Decision Tree, updated 2/8/2022to see if you need to quarantine your child. Please note the return to school date can be more than 10 days if the close contact is with a positive person in the same household.
  • Contact the school if your child will be absent for any reason. You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message.Please be specific in your reason. A staff member will follow up with you to confirm illness information and a return plan for your student.

Set Up a PowerSchool Parent Portal Account

The PowerSchool Parent Portal connects you to your SDUSD student’s records. By setting up an account and adding your student you can view their attendance, trimester grades, and update contact information.  In addition, many district forms are starting to be added to this portal and allows you to complete these required annual forms online instead of on paper.  If you would like to set up an account, please email Dawn Van Boxtel in our office at [email protected].

Yearbook Purchases

YBPay is open now for purchasing 2021-2022 Hancock Yearbooks. Pricing is now $20. Visit https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/rbooks and enter Hancock’s ID 13554722.  Order forms are also available in the office.

Spring Break Dates

Last week’s Hancock Happenings had a mistake on the calendar for dates of Spring Break. Note Spring Break is the week of Mar 28 - Apr 1.
