Halloween at Hancock

Get ready for a spooky Halloween parade! We are so excited to welcome back our Halloween parade at school on Monday, October 31st! To accommodate the large number of students, we will have to break up the parade into two groups.  The UTK and K classes will be doing the parade from 8-8:30 and 1st-5th will be at 1:30-2:00. Both times will be at the flag pole area. Gates will open for parents that would like to come to watch the afternoon parade at 1:25. Please remember that costumes must be able to be worn to school or be able to be put on without requiring assistance from staff, students may not bring toy weapons/accessories/or masks, and candy is not allowed at school.

Student/Parent Conflicts

Please note that if your child has a problem at school it is best to notify the classroom teacher, counselor, Principal, Associate Principal, or Office.  We are here to help.  Trying to “deal with the situation” yourself can lead to conflicts between students, and parents, and can sometimes involve School Police, Military School Liaison Officers, and even the San Diego Police Department. The school ends up becoming involved anyway and we could have possibly avoided unnecessary conflicts.  If you ever have a concern please talk with your child’s teacher first and other staff will become involved if/when needed.

Cell Phones/Toys

As a reminder, students may not use their cell phones or smart watches during school hours. These devices may be brought to school and put away in backpacks during school hours. Once students are outside the gates, they may use their devices. We ask that students leave toys, sports equipment, gum, candy, sodas, trading cards, etc. at home to avoid creating a distraction of the learning environment and to prevent personal items from being lost or stolen.

One exciting change at Hancock this year is that we are piloting a new program at SDUSD known as Community Based Schools. Hancock was named a Community School (CS) in the spring by the Board of Education along with four other schools in the district.   We are pleased to have our new Site Coordinator, Ms. Abi Avila, working to learn how to garner the best support possible for our Hancock students and families.  You may email Abi at [email protected]  For more information regarding Community Schools please visit the following websites:
