Hancock is now a Community Based School
One exciting change at Hancock this year is that we are piloting a new program at SDUSD known as Community Based Schools. Hancock was named a Community School (CS) in the spring by the Board of Education along with four other schools in the district. Over the summer and the beginning of school the district worked on hiring CS Site Coordinators. We are pleased to announce that Hancock’s Site Coordinator is Ms. Abi Avila who started working with us September 30th. Ms. Abi has an extensive background in working with non-profit organizations as well as a Master’s degree in Counseling. You will be hearing more news regarding our Community Schools status, surveys/needs assessment that will be coming to families in the future and how we can garner the best support possible for our Hancock students. Monster Dash Fun Run Oct 27th
It is time for our annual Monster Dash/Fun Run fundraiser! Every year, our Monster Dash raises money to support the school and students throughout the year. Our goal this year is $30,000! You get to be a part of that! As students raise money over the next few weeks, they will earn prizes and recognition. We even have prizes just for getting registered.

Girl Scouts at Hancock Begins Oct. 13
It’s time to press play…Girl Scout Outreach is coming to Hancock. The goal of Girl Scouts is to empower girls of all ages and backgrounds to develop self-esteem, self-confidence and a sense of individuality within a fun and caring environment. A 4-week program will be held after school on Thursdays from 12:15-1:30p. See the attached flyer or contact Geannie Gomez [email protected] for more information.
Students Can Make up Absences at Core Academy
Saturday, Nov 5th will be the first Core Academy session at Hancock this year. Core Academy is an additional instructional day (4 hours on a Saturday) offering academic support in various core subject areas to help students reach their academic goals and allows students to make up one full day of absence and up to 4 tardy days. Parenting Support Program - Information Meeting Oct 20th
The Defense Department and the Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) Program are pleased to offer ADAPT for our community. ADAPT is a family resiliency program that strengthens families by reducing stress, improving parenting, preventing and reducing children's emotional and behavioral problems, and strengthening parental functioning. ADAPT is an evidence-based parenting program designed for military families with school-aged children ages 4-13. See the attached flyer for information.
SDUSD Choice Application Window is Open
The priority window for the 2023-2024 Choice Application opened last week. Students who have moved out of Santo Terrace or Canyon View South during this school year, or were on the housing waitlist and were placed in a house outside these areas, must complete the Choice process in order to continue at Hancock next year. You can contact our clerk, Laurie Beeler, in the office if you are unsure if this is required for your student. Information and the application can be found HERE.
Students Absent With COVID-like Symptoms
Please keep your child home when they’re sick. If your student has any COVID-like symptoms (see list), please keep them home until the symptoms have improved and a negative COVID-19 test result has been achieved. If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please complete the Reporting Tool: https://sforce.co/3HOD3ZL If you have any questions about when and what is required for your student to return to school, please contact our health office at 619-605-3200, Option 3.
Need to Report an Absence?
If your child will be absent please be sure to report your absence to the office, not just your teacher. You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message. Please be specific in your reason.
