COVID-19 Screening Before Returning

After this Fall break and visiting with friends and family outside of school, SDUSD Nursing & Wellness encourages students and staff to test for COVID19 on Monday morning (November 28) before returning to campus. Testing before returning to school is recommended but not required. Additional test kits for students and staff are available at the Ed Center COVID-19 testing facility. If you test positive for COVID-19, please do not attend school and report your result here. Also, be sure to report any student absence to Mrs. Wong at 619-605-3200 Option 1 or here.

Attendance Matters!

Attendance Challenge Nov 28 - Dec 16

The weeks between holiday breaks are known to be a challenging time to keep students engaged in learning. The anticipation of the longer break serves as a distraction to us all. However, it is vital that students continue to come to school every day and keep up with the classroom instruction and practice. This will help to prevent your student from falling behind when they return in January. To incentivize students to be at school during these 3 weeks before Winter break, Hancock will be having its annual holiday Attendance Challenge. A calendar will be given to each student to track their attendance days and all students present every day will turn these in at the end of the challenge for a holiday goody bag.

Make up Absences at Core Academy Dec 3

Saturday, Dec 3rd will be the next Core Academy session at Hancock. Core Academy is an additional instructional day (4 hours on a Saturday) offering academic support and allows students to make up one full day of absence. Students must sign up ahead of time to attend. Please complete this Google Form to register your student. Sign Up for 12/3 Core Academy Here

New Absence Reports

San Diego Unified has begun sending monthly reports to families regarding attendance. You may already have seen the first of these automated reports, which will inform you of student absences to date and help track Chronic Absenteeism. Chronic absence is defined as missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused and unexcused absences. This can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third-grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. If you need supports around attendance, please reach out to our school counselor, Mrs. MacMaster
