Celebration of our Military Children

April is designated as the “Month of the Military Child”. This week we have a big week planned to celebrate Hancock’s military children!

  • All week we’ll have spirit days. See our list of spirit days here
  • Thursday is a special “Purple Up” day. We encourage all students, families and staff to wear purple
    • We invite uniformed service members to be at our entry gates at 7:35 to welcome our students to campus with high-fives
    • We invite our community to a special Flag Assembly at 7:50 with the Navy Quintet playing music and our National Anthem
    • United Through Reading will be on campus for parents to record a reading for their student

Spring Pictures Tuesday 4/11

Lifetouch will be photographing all students on Tuesday for Spring Photos!  These more casual photos than fall are an opportunity for students to show their style!  Students who have not pre-ordered pictures will bring home proofs to place orders after pictures have been processed. Pre-orders can still be done at mylifetouch.com Picture Day ID EVBGJCCSQ.

Danishes and Data Friday 4/14

This Friday, from 8:00-9:00am, join Abi Avila, our Community Schools Coordinator for “Danishes and Data” in the Eagle’s Nest (Rm 702). Miss Abi will be sharing snacks and reviewing the results of the recent Needs and Assets survey. This is an opportunity to make plans for next steps with the Community Schools Team   Flyer

Spring Scholastic Book Fair is Here

The Spring Scholastic Book Fair starts this week. The book fair will be set up in the library. Students will shop with their classroom during their normal library time. Students brought home flyers with information about options to pay for books they choose. The simplest way is to set up an EWallet. Visit Scholastic to see how it works.  There will be a special family shopping night on Thursday April 20th from 6:00-7:30pm. Parents can come shop with their students at this special event that runs concurrently to Family Science Night.

Let’s Read Family Literacy Program

SAY San Diego in partnership with Words Alive will be offering a FREE "Family Literacy Program," where families with students in grades 1st through 3rd will receive an upcoming class series to support strong readers among your students through storytime, crafts, games, and songs.  Students who enroll in this 6 week program will meet once a week and will receive books through their participation.  Parents will learn new strategies to engage your little learners in developing a love of reading! Please sign up with the information below to ensure we identify the best way to get your family involved in this program. Let us know you are interested here

Water Refill Stations Under Construction

Please be sure to send your student to school with a full water bottle each day. All of the filtered water refill stations on campus are under construction and will not be available for some time. We do have a supply of bottled water available if needed by students, as well as potable water in classroom sinks. However, the filtered refill stations are not available until the construction project has been completed.

Dads Corps Starting Soon

SAY San Diego will be bringing back the Dads Corps program. The Dads Corps program is FREE and offers dads a program to connect with other dads in the community, learn new aspects of parenting like, "Communication, Positive Discipline, and Rapport Building," and get better connected to your families! Participants in the program are eligible to receive gift cards for their participation and depending on whether you are able to commit to an in-person offering, dinner and childcare will be provided. The Dads Corps program provides 24 hours of programming over 8 weeks.

Please sign up with the information below to ensure we identify the best way to get you/your family connected to this program. Should you have questions, please visit our website: CLICK HERE or  contact Danny Romero at SAY San Diego: [email protected] or 858-810-8259.  Let us know you are interested here.

Applications for Summer School are due to our office by the end of this week. After April 14, students can be waitlisted.  Please contact Hancock’s office with any questions.

Order Your Yearbooks Today

This is the final week to pre-order a yearbook! Some copies will be available for purchase in June when we receive the books, but if you’d like to ensure your student can get one, please purchase online at https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/ School ID 13554723.

Get Ready for Family Science Night

On Thursday, April 20th from 6:00-7:30, Fleet Science Center will be sponsoring a family event centered around all things science! Plan to bring the whole family to have fun with interactive stations around our auditorium. In addition, our Book Fair will be open to families wanting to shop together during the event in our library.

Arrival Time Before School

It is very important that your students do not arrive at school before there is supervision. If your student is eating breakfast at school, the earliest they can be dropped off is 7:15am. For students who are not eating at school, our gates do not open until 7:35am. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated so we can keep all our students safe outside the school gates in the morning.

Student Absences Due to Illness

Please keep your child home when they’re sick.  They must be at least 24-hours fever and vomit/diarrhea free (unmedicated) before returning to school.

If your student tests positive for COVID-19, please complete the Self Reporting Tool and notify the school’s health office. If you have any questions about when and what is required for your student to return to school, please contact the office at 619-605-3200.

Reporting Absences

If your child will be absent please be sure to report the absence to the office, not just your teacher.  You may report the absence using this google form OR you may call our phone line at 619-605-3200 and press 1 for attendance to leave a message any day/time.  Please be specific in your reason.
