Military families are invited to shop for gently used children’s clothing in all sizes at the Children’s Clothing Fair on Thursday, September 24, from 9:00–11:00 AM at the Murphy Canyon Chapel. Garden Classes Have Started! 🐔

Our students are learning about living things and how to care for them, including our very own flock of chickens! While students may not always directly handle the chickens, PTF is asking families to complete a permission slip for chicken exposure and interaction. If you haven’t already, please request a form from your child’s teacher and return it before their next garden class. Chicken Permission Slip

Military Families: Your Voice Matters!  💙

Calling all active-duty, National Guard, Reserve, veterans, and their families! Hancock is proud to support the 2026 Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Survey. This is your opportunity to share what military life is really like and help amplify the voices of military families everywhere. Link to Survey

Your Child May Already Have Money for College! 🎓

CalKIDS is California’s college savings program, providing eligible students with money for future education at no cost to families. Your child may already have a CalKIDS account with funds waiting for them! Link to more information

Completing your LCFF Household Income Form is important. Household income information reported through LCFF can help identify eligible students for programs such as CalKIDS and helps determine important funding and resources for Hancock. Link to LCFF powerschool Portal (LCFF Data Collection in the left hand navigation.)

CalKIDS determines eligibility, not Hancock Elementary. Families can check their child’s eligibility directly with CalKIDS or contact CalKIDS with questions about their account.

🏠 Murphy Canyon Military Families

If you live in Liberty Military Housing in Murphy Canyon, your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) may be excluded from household income when determining LCFF income eligibility. Please do not assume your family is over the income limit because of your BAH. We encourage families to complete the LCFF Household Income Form and follow the district’s income-reporting guidance.

Need to Report an Absence? 🤒

Communication with our Attendance Clerk, Ms Shauna, is important if your student is absent for any reason. Per San Diego Unified Board policy, if you do not report the reason for the absence to the office within 5 school days, even if it was for an excused reason as permitted by CA Ed Code (illness, medical or dental appointments, funeral services, certain military-connected activities, etc.), it will automatically be changed to an unexcused absence. Please be sure to report the absence and the reason to the office every time. You can do this 24/7 either online or by phone @ 619-605-3200 Option 1. Our teachers cannot excuse absences, so be sure to only report absences to the front office.
