Labor Day Holiday - No School Monday Sept 4
Monday, September 4th is a Holiday. Enjoy the day off. We will see you back at school Tuesday the 5th.
Parents Needed for Two Important Committees:
Parents, we need your help! We have two very important committees at Hancock that require parent participation. The Site Governance Team (SGT) helps to provide feedback and make recommendations on school programs. The School Site Council (SSC) helps decide how to spend state and federal funds on programs and items we have at Hancock. Both committees meet on separate Mondays at 2:30 and we are currently meeting on Zoom for both committees. The SGT is in need of three parent volunteers and the SSC is in need of two parent volunteers. Please nominate yourself by Friday, September 8th. The self nomination form links are below and parents may self nominate for one or both committees:

Donations Requested for Clothing
Hancock’s Health Office often provides a change of clothes to our students who have accidents or spills. We are running quite short of clothing to loan to students in all ages and genders. If you happen to have some children’s clothing you could donate (socks, underpants, shorts, tshirts, leggings, etc) we would greatly appreciate your generosity..
Back to School Nights - Group B
This week, our second group of classrooms will be holding Back to School Night. This event will also be held in person in the classrooms at 5:00pm. We strongly encourage you to come without children. If you are unable to attend or cannot find child care, a zoom option will be available. Watch for details from your classroom teachers. Group B includes: Grades UTK, K, 5 and Ong, Steele, Effron - Thurs Sept 7 @ 5:00p
Back to School Packets
Back to School Packets went home last week with your students. Please take care that you review the packets and return all required information promptly. You can return them to the teacher or the front office.
SDUSD Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy
Hancock Elementary follows the School Board Policy with regards to cell phones and electronic devices on campus. According to the policy, students may use these devices outside the gates before school begins and after school ends. These devices must be kept out of sight and turned off during the instructional day. Unauthorized use of such devices disrupts the instructional program and distracts from the learning environment. Therefore, unauthorized use is grounds for confiscation of the device by school officials, including classroom teachers. Repeated unauthorized use of such devices may lead to disciplinary action. Students and parents are notified of this policy each year through the Facts for Parents booklet. The school is not responsible for lost, broken, or stolen devices.
Fall After School Programs
We have a couple after school programs set to return to Hancock this year. If you are interested in signing up your student for one of these programs, you will contact the group directly. We hope to provide more options soon!

Ways to Get Involved at Hancock
As the new school year begins, Hancock is always looking for parents and community members to helps support our students and staff. Here are some ways you can be ready to help:
-
Sign up as a volunteer: Every year (whether you’ve been a volunteer in the past or not) volunteers must fill out a volunteer application in the office and be screened by our volunteer coordinator. The application includes a one page form, show your ID and provide proof of a negative TB test within the last 3 years. We encourage you to get this process done now so that when the need for volunteers pops up with teachers or PTF, you are ready to roll.
-
Join a school committee! The Site Governance Team (SGT) helps to provide feedback and make recommendations on school programs. The School Site Council (SSC) helps decide how to spend state and federal funds at Hancock. Both committees meet on separate Mondays at 2:30 and we are currently meeting on Zoom for both committees. If you are interested in joining see the links to self nominate above.
-
Join our Parent Teacher Foundation (PTF): Whether you would like to get communications from PTF, would like to serve on the PTF Board, or somewhere in between, there are opportunities to stay in touch with our Foundation. Please fill out this survey to share your interest level if you’d like to be more involved.
