New Spring Lunch Menu Starts Monday 2/2
The district’s Food Services has a new menu that will be available starting this week. Hancock Cafe will be serving these meals free of charge to all Hancock students. In addition, students can take multiple servings of fresh fruit and vegetables from the salad bar. Copies of the new menus for both breakfast and lunch are available here.
Potential Government Shutdown
We understand there is a possibility of a partial federal government shutdown, which may impact some of our military-connected families in different ways. While not all services will be affected, we recognize that uncertainty about pay, benefits, and daily needs can be stressful.
Please know that support is available. We have shared links to trusted, year-round community and military family resources that can help with food, basic needs, and family support…regardless of a shutdown. These resources are here to support you and your family during times of uncertainty and beyond. Link

Flag Assembly Friday 2/6
Friday, February 6th at 7:50 in the quad will be our Flag Assembly for the month of February. Join us for a flag salute, school pledge and a brief awards presentation. Your child’s teacher will alert parents of students receiving awards.
Give Back Friday 2/6
This Friday will be our next opportunity to “give back” to our teachers and staff. If you have an hour or more to donate during the school day, please plan to visit our Eagles Nest (Rm 702) any time between 8:00-2:00 on Friday Feb 6th to see what projects could use your help. Typically this is anything from cutting shapes to assembling math workbooks. You do not need to be a cleared volunteer since you will not have any interaction with students. If you have a young child you are caring for and would like to bring them, there is a play area in the room to keep them busy while you work. Please contact Ms. Abi ([email protected]) with any questions. Please follow protocols for visitors by checking into the office when you arrive.

President’s Day Dash Fun Run - 2/12
It is time for the President's Day Dash Fun Run! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. All of the funds go to the PTF to be spent at our school on our students. We picked something simple for you to do. You do not have to sell anything or deliver anything! You just register your child, set up a web page, share it with family and friends and the donations start rolling in! And the kids earn prizes as they earn money! So far you all have raised over $7,000! We have had 30% of Hancock students registered. Please get registered and share that link! All students will be invited to participate in the Fun Run on Thursday Feb. 12 during the school day. Fundraising is not required to participate. See the attached flyer for steps to join the President's Day Dash! Email Mrs. Cimins at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Valentine’s Day at Hancock
Classroom teachers may choose to do a Valentine’s Day exchange on Thursday, 2/12. Teachers will provide more information to families. Any cards or treats must be sent with the student or given to the teacher directly in the morning lineup. The front office will not be able to accept any cards/treats dropped off. Candy, gum, and caffeine beverages are not allowed per the district’s Wellness Policy. Please be sure your child brings anything they plan to share with their class to school in the morning.
Clothing Donations Needed for Health Office
Hancock’s Health Office often provides a change of clothes to our students who have accidents or spills. We are running quite low on clothing to loan to students. If you happen to have some children’s clothing you could donate, we especially need pants/leggings/shorts with elastic waist, underpants, and shoes. Small sizes for our younger students are especially appreciated. Please bring them directly to the Health Office. We appreciate your support!
Pre-Order Yearbooks📚💸
Pre-Order Hancock’s 2025-2026 Yearbook for Grades TK - 4*. Hancock’s Online Yearbook portal is https://shop.yearbookmarket.com/hancockelementaryschool. Prices are $24.
*A big thank you to Hancocks’ School Safety Patrol who will be purchasing yearbooks for ALL 5th Grade students this year! Families will not need to place an order for these. All 5th graders will receive yearbooks when they are delivered in the Spring.
Need to Report an Absence? 🤒
Communication with our Attendance Clerk, Ms Shauna, is important if your student is absent for any reason. Per San Diego Unified policy, if you do not report the reason for the absence to the office within 5 school days, even if it was for an excused reason (illness, medical or dental appointments, funeral services, military ceremonies, etc) it will automatically be changed to an unexcused absence. Please be sure to report the reason for the absence every time. You can do this 24/7 either online or by phone @ 619-605-3200 Option 1.
