Hancock Happenings Week 3 (Sept 14)
Posted on 09/13/2020

MFLC Counselor

Hancock is very lucky to have a Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC) who is returning with us this year - Ms. Sandy Nunez.  The MFLCs had a change in service provider for their program that had to be approved at the last Board of Education meeting.  She is currently going through training with the new provider and will be starting soon.  As soon as we have her new contact information we will send it out in a future Hancock Happenings.   Ms. Sandy can support families and students with struggles they may be having by providing extra support and resources available to our military families.

Solar Panel Installations and Power Outages

We have been made aware that some of the homes in our area had power outages on Wednesday afternoon or have had or will have a power outage due to solar panel installation on your property.  We understand these things are out of your control.  Please do the best you can once you have power back on.  If it’s a solar panel installation let your teacher know and submit online work later in the day or you may come to our parking lot where your student device should be able connect to our wireless router at least for a little while.

New Login Problems

If your child has logged into their district device just fine and then one day it stops working, please bring the device to the Hancock Parking lot and try rebooting your device while it is connected to the school wireless router.  Usually devices are on campus and update regularly without an issue.  Because devices have been off campuses for months it may need an update while connected to our school wireless router.  Be sure to shut your device down - not close the device, but select the shut down option to turn it off.  Turn it on at the power button while in the parking lot.  Shut it down and turn it on again while still in the parking lot.  Try logging in while you are still in the parking lot to see if it works.  You may save yourself lots of time waiting on hold with district IT.

Having Trouble with Device Audio

Teachers have stated that some students have had issues with not being able to be heard on a Zoom meeting.  It has been helpful to have students use a headset or earbuds that include a small microphone that can be plugged into the audio/headphone jack.  Even a very inexpensive pair of headphones will do as long as there is a way to be heard with a microphone.  We realize the devices are not able to be adjusted by the student and can only be done by a district IT person.  We at the school are unable to make adjustments to device audio or camera settings.

School Office Hours/Contacts

While students are learning from home, our administrative and office staff will be working limited hours on campus. You can reach us by phone or by appointment for in-person needs between the hours of 9:00am to 1:00pm.  Our office phone remains 858-496-8310.  Follow the instructions when you call in to be directed to the correct staff phone. Voicemail will allow you to leave us a message if needed. You can always reach us via email as follows:

Have a Health Related Question?

Nurse Brandi Valdez and our Health Technician, Kirsten Sturrock will be available in a virtual format until schools reopen.  Please see information on how to reach them and other useful health related information on this link:  They will have office hours if you want to pop in, a Google Voice phone to reach them at, or email addresses you can send questions to.  Some of the information is to be determined.  Nurse Brandi will update them as soon as she is able.

Need to Report an Absence?

Reporting absences will still be required by state laws.  If your child will be absent from online learning please be sure to report your absence.  You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 858-496-8310 and put in extension 115 to leave a message.  Please be specific in your reason.  If your child is sick please let us know if it’s a fever, diarrhea, broken limb, etc.  If you are doing something personal it helps to know if it is a bereavement, promotion ceremony, family time due to deployment, etc.  Each situation is coded differently and we cannot assume what your situation is.  If you have a COVID related absence we can also assist with making sure the information stays confidential, but is necessary in reporting numbers to our district’s leadership.
