Hancock Happenings

Week 8 - Oct 19 - Oct 23

A Book For Every Student!

This Thursday, Oct. 22nd, SDUSD Family Engagement Departement, School Police and Hancock staff will be holding a drive-thru book drive in the school parking lot to hand out a new book to every K-12 student that needs one. Books were donated through the Family Engagement Department who identified Hancock as a school where students could probably use some new books at home.  Drive through during lunch distribution (12-2) and get a new book!

PTF Announcements

First General Meeting - Do you love all the fundraisers and give-backs PTF puts on? Do you have great ideas? Do you want to help out or meet other awesome parents?  If you answered yes to any of these, then mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 20 at 4:00.  We will have a general meeting to welcome new members and discuss upcoming projects.  Be sure to check out the PTF facebook page one hour before the meeting for the Zoom information.  We can't wait to see you there!

Kona Ice Fundraiser - Looking to beat the heat? Neighborhood favorite Kona Ice is here to help. On the next two Thursdays (October 22nd and November 5th), Kona will start driving around the neighborhood at noon.  Try a new flavor or buy your fave.  Just mention "Hancock" at purchase, and we will receive 20% of the sales!

Halloween Drive By In Disguise/ Donation Needed - Candy donations are needed for a fun event we have planned (tentatively) on October 30 from 9-10 AM.  For this drive-thru style event, families can come dressed in costume and wave to their favorite staff and volunteers and receive a little treat bag with toys and candy.  PTF is providing the bags and toys, but we are asking for help with candy donations.  Candy can be donated at the lunch pickup on Thursday, October 22nd or Friday, October 23rd.  If these times do not work, but you still wish to donate candy, please contact a PTF board member to make alternate arrangements.

Amazon Smile - Now all your eligible Amazon purchases can help Hancock.  When you are shopping from the app, please go to Settings > Amazon Smile and select Hancock Elementary School Foundation in San Diego, CA. Make sure you select "ON", and you're ready to go! If you are shopping in a web browser, go to smile.amazon.com/ch/27-0874698 and shop like normal.

Spirit Week - Join us in celebrating Spirit Week from October 26-30.  Each day is a new fun theme for your kids to participate in! Monday 10/26 - Pajama Day, Tuesday 10/27 - Crazy Hair, Wednesday 10/28 - Favorite Sport or Sports Team, Thursday 10/29 - Show your School Spirit, Friday 10/30 - Dress in Disguise.

Questions/Concerns About Distance Learning Technology Issues

We encourage families to continue to call the Family Technology Support Line 619-732-1400 for initial troubleshooting before going to one of the Support Centers. Please view the SDUSD Family Technology Support Center Locations 2020-21 for locations.  The district also has a support website with lots of information and guides for troubleshooting.  This is a very helpful resource for issues you may encounter.
