Confirm Your Enrollment for Full Time School for the 2021-22 School Year

Starting on August 30, 2021, we are proud to continue in-person learning for all students, including five full days per week of on-campus instruction that follows established bell schedules, transportation routes, in-person meals, and extended-day programs. All SDUSD schools will continue to monitor and follow health and safety guidelines. While in-person, full-time instruction is the primary and recommended mode of learning for all students next year, the district is offering a virtual academy for K-12 students who choose to remain online.

Our San Diego Unified Virtual Academy will offer a robust online magnet school available for students K-12. This Virtual Academy will provide rigorous daily instruction substantially equivalent to onsite instruction, which includes grade-level standards-based lessons and District and State assessments. Teacher directed instruction, at our District Virtual Academy, will require students to be highly engaged and responsible for completing all class assignments. The only option for comprehensive online instruction will be offered centrally through the Virtual Academy rather than at neighborhood schools. Students may have on-campus opportunities to receive academic support, labs or hands-on activities. High school students will have opportunities to participate in athletics.

The Virtual Academy will provide instruction for all participating students, including students receiving special education services and multilingual learners. The Virtual Academy will provide virtual IEP services, as outlined in student’s IEPs.

The Virtual Academy will not offer the following programs: Early Learning, including Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Dual Language, International Baccalaureate (IB), and/or STEAM/VAPA Magnet.

Please take a few minutes to complete the enrollment form link below with your information and make a selection for Fall 2021-2022. Families that do not respond to this enrollment form by May 26 will be automatically enrolled for in- person learning.

We look forward to continuing to serve and support your child during our upcoming school year!

Last Days of School

Staff has met and would like to have a last day of school with both the “A” students as well as the “B” students on the last two days of the school year. Students who attend 4 days a week may choose to attend one day either day, but would not necessarily benefit from attending both days as the lessons will most likely repeat.  Students who are online will be asked to check in as they do on Fridays and the rest of their day will be asynchronous learning. All 6th hour tutoring will end on Thursday, June 10th as well.  All students will dismiss at 1:20pm on June 14th and 15th.  Please make plans accordingly for child care:

Monday, June 14th is an “A” Day dismissing at 1:20PM.  “B” and online only students will check in for 30 minutes.

Tuesday, June 15th is a “B” Day dismissing at 1:20PM.  “A” and online only students will check in for 30 minutes.

Looking For Parent Supervisors for Safety Patrol

We want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Birthelmer for sponsoring our Safety Patrol for the past two years!  They have coached and maintained the safety of all our students by ensuring our Safety Patrol is ready for their jobs.  We would like to have other parent volunteers that are willing to be trained by the Birthelmers to take over for next school year as they transition to their new duty station. If you are interested in learning more about how to sponsor our award winning Safety Patrol please email Principal Hightower at ihightower@sandi.net for further information.

California School Parent Survey

As part of the California Healthy Kids Survey the California Department of Education partners with West Ed to survey parents each year (with the exception of last school year due to school closures).  The survey is anonymous and each school site is required to send out the survey via a unique link. We ask that you respond by May 28th to Hancock’s parent survey via the link provided here: https://wested.ugam-apps.com/wed/ts/Ncya

5th grade students will complete the California Healthy Kids Survey with their classroom and our counselor Mrs. MacMaster before May 28th.
