District Update to Phase Two Reopening

On Dec. 1, SDUSD updated their plans for Phase Two reopening due to rising positive cases of COVID in San Diego county and the continuation of the county being in the purple tier.  Originally the district planned to reopen on January 4th for Elementary Schools. The new date has yet to be determined.  See the district news page for the full announcement. The district will provide an update on January 13th of any new dates at that time.


Governor’s Stay at Home Orders

On Dec.3rd, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a Regional Stay at Home Order to take effect once a region’s ICU bed capacity has fallen below 15%. The actual order can be viewed here:  CDPH Letterhead The county health department predicts San Diego may fall into this order over the weekend. The district informed Principals on Friday, Dec. 4th, that this order will not change any instruction for schools in the San Diego Unified School District.  Students who are currently in Phase One appointment based learning or assessments may continue as planned.

Family Reading Workshop

Our District’s Department of Family Engagement is inviting all families to participate in a “Family Zoom Workshop” on Monday, Dec. 7  at 5:15 p.m.  This workshop will be on the High Impact Home Strategies on Reading (Asking Questions).  These workshops are designed for parents to do WITH THEIR STUDENT, so please be sure your students attend this Family Zoom workshop.  Students must be accompanied by an adult!  See the attached flyer for more information. Middle School Choice Deadline for 5th Grade Students Dec 11

We are sharing an important letter coming from the two Serra Cluster middle schools. They have requested a very quick turnaround on the school choice applications for students entering 6th grade next school year. Please look at the attached letters and use this Google Form to make a school choice for your student no later than Dec 11th. You are encouraged to attend the zoom presentations for both DePortola and Farb to help answer questions and make your decision.  A video is also available highlighting the two schools Farb_DePortola_Presentation.mp4 - Google Drive

Attendance Challenge Is On!

The 15 Day Attendance Challenge is on! Make sure your student is logging on to their class Zoom sessions and/or submitting assignments each day through December 18th to receive a prize pack when we return from winter break!  Download the “tracker” here to allow your student to track their days. These forms DO NOT need to be turned in.

Next General Meeting 12/15 - Join us December 15th at 4pm for our last General PTF meeting of 2020. The meeting is expected to last about an hour and you'll find the link to join the meeting on the PTF Facebook page an hour before the meeting starts.

Holiday Shop for Students Closes Monday 12/7 - Our Penguin Patch Holiday Shop is open now and closes on Dec. 7th!! Our holiday shop is a great opportunity for your student to discover the joy of giving. Gifts start at $0.50 and ship directly to your door for a small flat fee. Hancock Spirit Week Dec 14-18 - During the final week of school before Winter Break, students are encouraged to participate in Hancock Spirit Week and dress according to the themed days.

Monday- Wacky clothes day! Wear clothes backwards, inside out, and/or different shoes!

Tuesday- Sports day! Wear your favorite team or sports shirt

Wednesday- Crazy hair day!

Thursday- School Spirit day! Show your school spirit and wear your Hancock gear or colors.

Friday- Pajama or ugly sweater day! Wear your pajamas or ugly sweater and join us from 9-10am for our drive through Winter Wonderlot material distribution event.

Winter Wonderlot Materials Distribution Drive Thru 12/18 - PTF and Hancock Staff will be welcoming families for a Winter Wonderlot material distribution event on the final Friday before Winter Break. Drive through our 'Winter Wonderlot' between 9-10am and wave at teachers and staff. Each child will be given a small goodie bag while supplies last at the end. PTF is still in need of donated candy canes for those bags. Please contact them at hancockeaglesptf@gmail.com if you would like to donate.

Updating Chromebooks

Does your child’s Chromebook have technical issues?  When  you call IT below for support one of the first questions you’ll be asked is have you updated your child’s Chromebook lately?  To do that please come to the school parking lot or bench outside with the Chromebook shutdown.  Not just closed.  Boot up your Chromebook and look for the wireless connection to show it is connected to i21WIRELESS.  RESTART your Chromebook.  Please note:  Do Not Shutdown.  That does not update the computer.  It must be on Restart.  Let it run any updates fully.  Once you are able to login do so and open up Clever or other applications you normally use.  Then RESTART your computer again.  IT informed Mrs. Hightower it takes two RESTARTS (Not Shutdown) in order to fully update your Chromebook.

Call the Family Technology Support Line at 619-732-1400 for initial troubleshooting. If your child will be absent from online learning please be sure to report your absence.  You may report the absence using this google form or you may also call our phone line at 858-496-8310 and put in extension 115 to leave a message.  Please be specific in your reason.
